73 2wd cab on 84 4x4 frame ( newbie)
« on: January 10, 2009, 12:27:34 am »
hello to all. I have a question that may have been asked 100 times but as all newbies I get one time forgiven right????? ok here we go.
I own a 1973 2wd chevy. it has been a good truck. It is very solid(cab wise). Okay I was able to get a 84 4x4 from my buddy from work. It has a good drive train but the body is shot. Here is the question. I know that the cabs are mainly the same, other then the center hump.  What is the deal with the vin number. I mean i thought that if it was the same model type it was okay to use the cab. I have heard so many things that i wanted to get a real answer from some others. so i would like to use the 73 cab on my 84 frame and title it as a 73. thank you

You should be able to check with your local/state D M V office .That way everything is legal when you go for your registation.

you should be OK with just swapping the cab since the Vin on the frame is under the cab and is all rusted up. if you going to do it the legal ways you have to combine the titles at dmv or mva what ever your sate called it. the only time you will get in trouble well not the only but its the main reason is if you switch the Vin's in the cab. cant recall the year they changed the cab mounts, blazer if your around i know you know that along with many others.

Only reql difference also your vin will indicate its a 2wd truck and you got a 4x4 chassis under it.I say you shouldnt have a problem with registering it.I got(well it was) a 1985 cab and a 1977 frame and its titled as a 1980 truck as i swapped all my 1980 setup to the 1985 cab like metal dash, wiring, and so forth.

thanks

67 - 72 cabs will not bolt directly onto a 73 or newer chassis.
I would just swap the cab and register it as the 73. N.H. DMV thinks my 86 K30 dump is a 86 C30 cab and chassis because of the VIN #!
I swapped an 83 C 10 cab onto my 86 K 20. I also swapped the VIN plate. So it will be registered as an 86 K 20.

I agree with blazin just swap the body onto the 4x4 chassis and have fun with the truck.

yes. its the what second number k for 4x4 c for 4x2. also the 4x2 frames are the same as the 4x4 the holes are already there for accessories just have to utilize them i mean there are some differences just you can make a 4x2 frame a 4x4 but its easer just to swamp them
