How to get clear coat off wheels
« on: April 16, 2006, 04:42:00 pm »
:\   I have a set of polished aluminum wheels that have at some point been clear coated to save the polished surface.  These wheels were steam cleaned once which, of course, blistered the clear coat.  My problem is:  How do I get the remaining clear coat off the wheels.  I want to polish the wheels to their original luster, but that cannot be done until the left over clear coat is removed.  I have tried lacquer thinner, acetone, etc., etc.  without success.  What will take this clear coat off the wheels?  They are really nice wheels I would like to save, but the clear coar prevents me from restoring the shine.  Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks guys.  :D

The gasket remover worked slick as snot! :D  Thanks for the info.  Who would have thought.....:\   Spray it on and five minutes later wipe it off.  Great stuff!

There is some aviation stripper you can use...works great.
