So I scanned a couple websites with casting numbers for big blocks and couldn't find out what I have so I took a picture because I figured someone here could figure it out...

This is off the engine I removed from my project truck.

The casting number is on the back of the block near the bellhousing.

Should be drivers side just below where the head mounts.

Yeah- what Vile says, Mike. That stamped number doesn't match any of the engine casting numbers given by numerous sites I visited looking for it. I don't think the engine casting numbers contain any letters.

It's a partial VIN and/or engine code stamped into the passenger front deck surface.  It isn't in any VIN format I've come across, or engine code for that matter.  Usually the three letter suffix would be at the end, but a CAJ would decode as a '71 255hp small block 400.  If it's a big block, that would be wrong, so take it for what it's worth.

Thanks guys,

I'll go over to where I'm working on the truck and get the right numbers.

***Update***

Here's two pictures I took of the number, the engine is on the ground under the truck right now so kind of hard to get a good picture,

Looks like 14015445 to me and according to one website I checked it's a 4-bolt main 454

Does that look right to you guys?

     Yep, looks to be a 1975 - 1987 454 with 4.250 bore 4 bolt main.
