Been busy with some other things, Full suspension and steering rebuild on an 06 Dodge Dakota and some home repairs. Was trying to figure out how to repair some rounded out bolt holes in my bed that I think LineX did. Finally got some washers for a wood bed and cut out what I needed. Welded them in and still need to finish them up. Got a few pics to show the problem and my fix. I am open for any suggestions to do a better fix for the problem.

Finished the two holes that were rounded out in my bed. Have to sand around them where the rubber (LineX) is at. Next I have to clean up under (bottom) of my bed and then I will be about ready to put it back on my truck. The two rounded out holes were a pain and took too much work for such a small task.

Been working on the bottom of my truck bed for a while off and on. Was hard work stripping it down by hand - best to media blast if able (I was not), cleaned it, metal prep, and then Por15. was no rust left on it. Will apply some undercoating over the Por15 soon. Have some minor things to fix on it and will put the bed back on my truck.

Discovered another thing about the truck doing this. The wheel well liner on the truck bed is made of aluminum.

Don't use POR15 on anything. It eventually releases in sheets from the metal. What do you mean your wheel well is aluminum?

The wheel well (liner that is screwed in) inside the bed cleaned up so clean it appeared to be aluminum. Looked like it anyhow. What would you use in place of Por15?

Stick a magnet to it. It really depends on what you are going after. If it's a corrosion protection with just a black finish, chassis saver is better. Raptor liner seems to hold up good if you like that look.

Just going for a corrosion protection, no rust!

Got my truck running again! Initially I primed the carb with some fuel to get it to run. It would only run for a short time on the fuel I primed the carb with. I pulled off the pre filters I installed at the selector valve in case they were restricting fuel flow. No good!

I pulled the filter at the carb (it had been in since my truck was running prior to the rebuild) and it looked nasty. I used almost a whole can of carb cleaner on the carb to include quite a bit of spraying in the hole the filter goes in, then the rest in/on the rest of the carb. Then I installed the new one I bought. Appears the design changed slightly, the new filter has a valve on the end where the fuel goes in (Line Side) and the design will only allow fuel flow to the carb.

I did not prime the carb and it started right up with hesitation. It is running a little rough and I will get my timing light on it. However, I was happy the way it started after so long and after the distributor install by looking at the rocker arms (lifter # 1 & 3) movement and pointing the distributor at 1 when I installed it was perfect and quite easy to do compared to pulling the plug and observing the piston.

I cleaned the cooling system today when I got it running and tomorrow I will put in a new cooling fluid.

I had ordered a new mech fuel pump, A/C Delco, just in case the mech fuel pump I have was bad and I an supposed to pick it up tomorrow. Guess I will hang on to it as a spare fuel pump, any idea if they have a shelf life.

Running rough still, however I pulled it into my back yard and my transmission and brakes seem to be good with the little driving I did. I am a little worried because I have a tik that sounds like a lifter or rocker arm. I did not have any engine problems prior to my build and it it a low milage engine (crate engine) I installed new about 45,000 miles ago. Took are of the cooling system anti freeze/distilled water. The old was changed not long prior to I started the build but was still dirty when I changed the oil/filter today.

I have some family stuff to do over the next couple of weeks and will net get much if any work done in that time frame.

Sometimes it's best to deal with other things and then come back at it with a fresh set of eyes.
