6.2 swap into an 84 350 truck with an sm465
« on: August 14, 2014, 11:19:31 AM »
So i have a good 6.2 diesel motor with low miles i would like to swap into my 84 k20 350/sm465. I understand there are flywheel differences from diesel to gas motors, and that sometimes the starters have problems with fitment to the bell housing, but other than that what problems might i run into? also can i keep my same clutch? from what ive read it looks like the sbc motor mounts will work with my 6.2. (also i dont know if this makes a difference but the 6.2 used to be mated to a turbo 400.)

You have two big swaps in mind- the engine and the tranny. It's going to take some looking around at different websites to get all the answers. I hope you'll be happy with the 6.2. A lot of guys get away from them or build them up because the engine  lacks power and they go to the 6.5. Lee Swanger from Miami , aka-Clevite Kid. or Dr. Lee, has an awesome 84 that he built to run great. He used to be on the Dieselpage website.
