1988 3/4ton , 1ton differences
« on: February 09, 2011, 05:47:24 PM »
I have a 1988 1 ton 2wd srw truck that I really like, but hate the rear gear ratio.(4.10) I drive only on the street and need higher gears. I thought I might be able to swap in a 6lug rear axle and swap the front rotors over to 6lug, but some around hear say you can't do that on a 1ton. 3/4 ton trucks they say you can. What is the big differences between a 1ton and 3/4 ton?

If you have a donor you should be able to swap everything over.  You can put 1 tons under a half ton so mounting isnt the big issue on the rear.  For the front, the spindles out I believe are different and require 3/4T ball joints out....

Seems like it would be allot less work to just swap in a higher geared rear, or swap the gears in yours?

Blazin:  That's what I am trying to do, but finding higher gears is near impossible.  No aftermarket support, so you have to look all over for a used set.

Is this an R/V truck or C/K? The spring pads and shock mounts are diffrent on the R/V frame, So I dont think its a direct swap Capt.

it is a c3500. I have found a 3.42 14bolt out of a 3/4 ton, but the spring pads are wider.

Check out the market for a semi floating 14 bolt. Think I found 2 lockers for mine $500 + each.
