4l60e to a passenger drop transfer case question
« on: May 10, 2015, 11:38:19 PM »
I'm in the process of swapping a 2004 5.3 into my 81 k10 and have been trying to solve the issue of what to do about the transfer case.  I just found this on craigslist "1989 chevy 2500 3 speed manual transmission and transfer".  Do you think that transfer case will work on my 4l60e and if so what additional work will I need to do?  Thanks guys

I'd use a NV3500 5 speed from a 97-07 and a NP-208 from  behind a TH-400
Should all bolt together

afaik the 3 speed sm465 never came 27 splines like the 4l60e did. you need a t-case off a 4l60 or 700r4 so a np241c out of a 90-91 k5 or suburban. is your 4l60e 4x2 or 4x4?

I actually just found a passenger drop np241c out of a blazer.  The guy who has it says the blazer and suburban have different transfer cases that year but I did think   Is he right? I'm going to check it out tomorrow night.  Is there anything I need to look for before I buy it?  Also will I have to change out any shafts or should it just bolt up?  thanks guys I'll let you know what happens

You'll have to swap input shafts to a 32 spline
From a 32 spline scavenged from a drivers drop 241

But it's just a snap ring and maybe a couple bolts
Very easy

I still have the transfer case that came with the trans.  I think the year is 2004.  Will that work?

nope as it should be a driver side drop  you will need the 90-91 k5 or burb np241c passenger side drop as it  has the vss on the tail housing on the transfer case to be used.

and will have the correct spline count to mount up to the 4l60e 65e 70e or 80.  and can see it bolts straight up to my 4l70e

what year blazer. yes theyre different but its the correct one for the vss. our trucks generally use np208, np205 or sp203 on the 90-91 burbs and blazers it should be a 4l60 (minus the "E") with the np241 that you need for the computer to properly shift the 4l60e

the transfercase off the 4l60e is going to be a driverside drop you need a passenger side drop. but i think in 01 the 4l60e was renamed and beefed up it was then called the 4l65e. the np241 is 27 splines off a 4l60 might have to count your shaft as idk, maybe someone else does?

as long as the 4l60e was a 4x4 trans the output shaft will allow the np241 to mount right up,

65e was later on then came out with the 70e and now their at some crazy number,  and i didnt count the splines on the t-case or trans just stuck it right up.

The transfer case is out of a 90 blazer and is passenger drop. My trans is definitely a 60e because its stamped in big letters on the side and yes it is also originally a 4x4.  Is there any difference between a 1990 blazer and 1990 burb transfer case?  Just curious.  Thanks guys this helping a lot
