Title: 1984 Silverado Stepside brake RPO codes needed.
Post by: Chuck Step-a-side on June 22, 2015, 07:53:46 AM
Does anyone have 1984 1/2 ton Silverado Stepside with the original RPO codes that's located in the glove box?
I have to replace the front calipers and rear brake shoes and I need the RPO codes for the brakes size.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Actually you only need to know how thick your rotors are and how wide your rear brake shoes are.  84's don't list the RPO for the GVW brake ratings.  The VIN # (4th) digit is what your brake system was when it rolled out of the factory.  Has anything ever been changed?

No, I have owned the truck for about 9 month. I'm doing a refurb and slowly replacing all mechanical part except for the engine and A/T.

Let me try to answer this a different way.  Your truck could have a 1 inch or 1.5 inch rotor in front and a 2" or 2.5" wide brake shoe in back.  You say you've had the truck 9 months?  Any of the previous owners might have made a change mix matching your set up.  Someone else with a stepside may have a different braking system than yours.  I've had at least 100 square body trucks and have only seen the RPO code list on 1989-91.  The rest is basically the short options list like the following pictured.
