LS swap....correct me if I知 wrong!!!!
« on: January 17, 2018, 01:57:56 PM »
Currently I have a 1978 Chevrolet 4wd/350/350/NP203. I want to do a LS swap and go to a trans with overdrive and eliminate the full time 4wd(203.) I have researched and trolled this site and many others.

I would like to go with a LQ9/700r4....but I am unsure as to what transfer case to use, so that I do not have to have new drive shafts built.

Is this possible?

Thanks

Driveshafts are cheap and a dime a dozen. You shouldn't base your build on driveshafts if you are planning an LS swap. If you are going to use a 700R4, an np208 or np241 are typically readily available along with driveshafts from a donor. You'll want to consider manual locking hubs too.

I just did this swap to my 77 swb, , kept the  stock 350, but put in a 700r4 and the 208. You will most likely have to get new drivelines, I did. The old ones just wont work, besides your gonna want all new stuff anyway. I also went to the local pik n pull and got as much as I could for the swap out of a k5-k10 that had what I needed, cross member, 4wd shifter, the gear indicater off the dash cluster and other things that were needed. you can use your t350 shift linkage, it will adjust to the 700r4. you will have to move the 700/208 cross member back I believe, and drill only two new holes to bolt it up.  If you go 700r4, make sure you get your tv cable adjusted correctly.

If you use adjustable motor mounts you might be able to get the motor/trans/tcase mounted in just the right spot that one of your driveshafts could probably be reused, but I would be surprised if both the front and back could be reused swapping that many components. Just a lot of different lengths to account for. I壇 budget for at least one re-tubed driveshaft in your swap
