VSS Trans with a Mechanical Speedo?
« on: July 07, 2012, 11:03:57 AM »
My swb frame is in the mock up stage right now. Pics will be coming soon. I muscled my craigslist nv3500 into the frame a couple nights ago and realized that I'll either need an electric speedometer or an adaptor to spin my original mechanical unit.

So, is there an adaptor available to do that? Or, an electric 100mph chevy speedo? I'm not a fan of the looks of the 85mph ones.

It's gonna be a few more months till I start swapping the can and sheet metal, but I like to have my ducks in a row.

Thanks Chris! By the by, are you still a distributor for american auto wire? I'm thinking about getting rid of my factory harness when I do this swap.

American Autowire sells and exact replica of what you currently have, (plugs included).  Are you wanting the entire wiring for the truck front to back?  I am finishing uploading images, if you shoot me an email reminding me I will check on the pricing Monday.

Not for the NV trans, but may give you something to think about. Here is what I did for the 4L60 in my truck. The speedometer is just a stock set-up from a 700r4.

I bought the tone wheel from JTR, might want to check them...they have all different versions of speed sensor/speedo conversions.
I used a holesaw to drill out the hole in the transmission case & also to drill the threaded "slug" out of a broken Bravada transfer case, welded it in with the proper "airgap" between the sensor & the wheel. It's been working flawless for a few years now.  Lorne
