Although nothing other than mpg was my reasoning I decided to upgrade to something newer and more economical. I found a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado exactly like I would have ordered a new 2023 for less than 1/2 the cost. I was leery of the 5.3L valve train woes and was glad this one had the 4.3L. This 2020 has 37K miles and fit the bill nicely. Took it on a 540 trip and was getting 24.7 mpg doing the speed limit. I haven't towed my trailer with it yet but the specs says it should. I sold my 2001 2500HD in less than 24 hours so mama is happy.

Nice, so 2020 4.3 is the ticket?

I will let you know after I try it with my car trailer and 67 Ford Custom on it for towing capability. So far so good though

Looks good. It will be interesting to read your feedback after you tow with it.

i personally think it's a mistake that gm discontinued the 4.3 in pickup trucks!

longbed too! I like it! I'd be okay with a V6 chevy or ford NA. They make more power than my 1978's 350 anyway. I don't strictly need the hauling capacity of my 3/4 ton since I have a trailer. Mileage is king.

Thanks, the versatility of a longbed I missed. Working off the tailgate on projects.

No towing updates but I went on a 890 mile round trip adventure for the topper. I got 25.1MPG on the way home. The extra weight sure makes it ride better. I am going to build a bed platform for tools underneath and do some off grid camping. I will document the build in members project for those who may be interested.
