M1008 6.2 Cab on K20 5.7
« on: February 07, 2019, 09:51:39 AM »
Hey so I plan on swapping an M1008 CUCV cab on my 85 K20, both are automatics. However, the M1008 cab is diesel and my current cab is not. Is there a difference in the firewall or transmission humps? Newbie question, sorry I'm new to auto restoration, this is my first vehicle. Its a 1980 cab currently with a mid 80s CUCV cab as replacement.

The cabs are basically the same 4x4 to 4x4.   There are differences in wiring obviously but the dimmer switch and wiper controls are on the steering column so the dash and bezel surround are year specific.

Your truck is an 85 with an 80 cab on it? What style nose is on it?  If your running the 1980 nose on the CUCV cab the hood hinges will have to be changed. Kinda curious,  it seems odd that this truck is getting a second cab swap.  Is this a plow truck?

Yes, it was a plow truck at one point. The PO swapped an 80 cab on when the original got too rusty and cut the 80's cab hood hinge slots. So yes it has been swapped.

Careful with the paint on the army truck cab

Some had paint that was very toxic
And should  NOT be sanded unless you’re wearing a full moon suit

Which VIN plate is on the current cab now ?
The original one that matches the frame ?
The replacement cab one ?

Which one you gonna use to register it next time ?

Keep things consistent so you won’t have trouble with the dmv later

Swapping VIN plates for fraud is 100% against the law

Swapping them for body repair is a little fuzzy but it’s usually a don’t ask/ don’t tell thing
