Engine and Drivetrain questions and clarifications
« on: June 27, 2015, 06:07:01 PM »
Hi all,
First post so please bear with me, I done a lot of searching, but still feel a little lost.

Currently my truck is a 1985 GMC K10, with 305CI, TH400, NP208, and (I have not double checked) 3.42 rear end gears. Originally came with 700R4, PO replaced transmission several times, which is how I got it(tranny is not working)

I would like to convert to manual, and if I have the money to get one, a 6.2 Diesel.

Ideally I would like to go for an NV4500, early with the lower first gear(6.**).

so 1st question- Is the only way to adapt the NV4500 to the Engine an Advance Adapter Bellhousing? or could a SM465 Bellhousing be modified to use with one?

2nd- Can a 350 flywheel be used on the 6.2 or do I need to find a diesel specific flywheel?

3rd- is there a vacuum pump available to use for the current vacuum brakes?

I have a 2wd 1986 1 ton, 350, sm465 as a parts truck, it does have hydroboost, just don't want to go through that hassle if I don't have to.

if you have any links to threads that that may help, please post them, I am here to learn, and search doesn't always provide

Thanks for the help

The NV-3500 5 speed should bolt right up to your t case if it has the 32 spline input (which it should with a 400) and to the 6.2

First gear isn't as low but it's a great Trans for most people

You need a 6.2 flywheel

I don't think I can use a NV3500, I have 4 wheel drive, and almost everything I have read shows that the clutch cylinder on the passenger side of the bell-housing will hit the drive shaft, I do know with some lift this wouldn't be a problem, but I have no plans to lift the truck

this is why I was looking at the NV4500 with the detachable bellhousing

The 1997-2007 version has an internal cylinder
