A good carburator for 1986 chevrolet?
« on: April 17, 2004, 06:15:00 PM »
Hi I am looking for a good affordable carburator for my 1986 Chevrolet Pickup. It used to have a 305 but now has a 350 GM Goodwrench crate engine. The old quadrajet from the 305 has it.  there is some hestiation on take off.

The carburator I been looking at lately is a edelbrock performer series model 1406. It looks like a good choice.
It would also be good for the edelbrock intake manifold model 2101 that I purchased recently.

Any suggestions?

Qjet is my first choice. Next is a Carter AFB, 625cfm electric choke.

I am leaning toward a qjet tehse days i have both the edle and the carter on 2 differnt trucks with similar set ups and they both seem to have a little lag when you mash on it and boy do they seem to have a richness issue I wish I had a decent qjet to try

i would go with the edelbrock. carb choices are truly a personal choice since everyone will tell you different. the 1406 would be good for the stock to mild motor but if you build it up lots you'll want a bigger carb:rolleyes

I would stick with the Q jet.  I always seem to have good luck with em'.  I think the performer is a good carb for the price.  My cousins both have performers on their trucks. I don't care for them b/c they don't dump fuel like a q jet. It seems like a steady acceleration. you can really tell when the secondaries in a q jet open

What about the holley truck avenger 670 cfm off road carburator. Is it any better than a Edelbrock performer series 1406?
