Easiest Transfercase to mate to 4l60e?
« on: October 27, 2015, 01:27:15 PM »
I'm looking to do a 5.3/4l60 in my 75 k10. I've been on Advance Adapters a lot looking at a variety of adapters.
I have an NP203 in it now, but I'd like to go to a part time 4wheel instead of the full time like the 203 offers.

I think I'm leaning on a np205 or np241. But I also heard np 208 is an easy swap too?
Has anyone done one of these swaps? I'm eager to get going, but i need to know what i'm buying ::)

upgrade the pump, torque converter, sunshell, get the transgo reprogramming kit, servo kit, and add a tranny cooler -you'll be good to go.

Just make sure the used trans you get is chevy bolt pattern, and the correct tailshaft length. Also flush your oil cooler good.

The NP208C is the easy way to go.
The 208 has a bunch going for it.   It's light, plentiful, an easy bolt-up, and has the lowest low range of the three common squarebody transfer cases. Just make sure to get one with the proper input spline count.

Don't use Dexron III in it anymore.  GM released a service bulletin for Dexron VI.   That bulletin calls for Synchromesh fluid in most manual transmissions and transfer cases that originally called for Dexron III.  Every one of the major players has a Synchromesh compatible fluid so it's very common.

Is the 208c the same as the 241c? The 241c in 87-91 blazers burbs and crew cabs with the 700r4. So you can just use the adapter plate that comes off that trans

They are the same mounting pattern. This is one of the things that made me choose to use one on my NV4500 instead of doctoring a LH drop NP241.
The RV series RH drop NP241 is a fairly rare bird. It has a very slightly lower low range ratio than the NP208C.  The 241 is 2.72:1 vs the 208 at 2.69:1

For the TH700R4 and 4L60 you'll need a 27 spline input vs the less common 32 spline on the TH400, 4L80 and, NV4500.

And it comes with the electronic speed sensor that the 4l60e needs to shift I have one bolted to my 84 k3500 that someone put a 4l60 in but I just gave it to my buddy who's putting a 4l60 behind his 454 crew cab so he's not pushing 3k just cruising

VSS senders can be had to go inline with the cable.  http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/SpeedSensors_Speedometer.html
I used one for for the T400 cruise control box in my 76.
