Are you saying it will turn over by hand but the starter won't crank?

i think what he saying is it just wont fire up i would look at the points they probably need to be replaced. in school our gas man traded a cub for us to work on for a discount in welding gas. so after fifty years of sitting all the rust in the tank in the fuel lines and bad points, i finally got it fired up after a fire ::) due to a hole in the float and a little back fire lol got her fired up and running like they just bought it from the store. next problem was the clutch it was stuck/rusted engaged, so my Buddy's told me to pop it in gear while they stood on the rear to ride a wheelie we were board so why not. well upon slamming it into gear the shifter broke off and once the front finally hit ground i saw i was heading strait for the teachers truck. never seen a bunch of good ol' boys try to hole back a lawn mower with a 200 lbs guy sitting on it be but after i ripped a hot wire from the ignition i had hot wired due to it being bad lol we finally sat back and realized how funny that was

It will turn over by the switch and the starter but it just want crank anyway my dad changed the points a few years ago so i think that would not be it. It has been sitting for a while lol when we took the fly wheel cover off something built a nest in there

This makes no sense. If the starter is cranking the engine then the engine is cranking. I think you mean to say the engine cranks but will not start and run.

 ???

Check points, plug, coil, wire, and gas. It's gotta be one of those. If it turns over by starter, check to see if it's getting fuel then check for spark.
