fuel vapor canister

(1/1)

gpday06:
what exactly do the fuel vapor canisters do? i believe that they just take the vapor concentrate it into a fuel and send it to the carb to be burnt, but im not sure, and since i have a 79 with dual tanks i dont have to worry about emissions, so could i just bypass them some how?

DnStClr:
That's what it does, but the vapors don't concentrate into a liquid.  The vapors are drawn into the carb or intake manifold (if tbi) by vacuum so they can be introduced into the burn cycle. Removing the cannisters isn't necessary, even tho a lot of us do it.. It helps clean the air by not allowing the unburned fuel to release into the atmosphere. Don St.Clair
