Title: POWER WINDOW CONVERSION??????????
Post by: kfoz on December 15, 2015, 09:35:23 AM
Who has done this & are there better conversions kits over others???
ALSO, Ecklers says with their kit you must use 78-87 window sash's for the conversion???

My truck is a 1976 GMC!

A friend of mine has an account with good discounts at Eckler truck so I may go with that.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Thanks all!  :)

I put factory power windows and locks from an 85 in my truck. Wiring, motors, swirches everything. It all Works no problem. I would only use factory stuff, never had to deal with aftermarket kits.

Well, I do have an '83 truck I could take that from BUT the motors are weak & one doesn't work.  Maybe the switch??

When you perform the conversion, I strongly recommend integrating relays into your plan.  Augmenting the factory wiring with relays results in a world of improvement and longer service life for the motors.  See Wiring up power windows and door locks (http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=27076.msg225320#msg225320).

When I got the parts for mine, I had 1 weak motor, it was the drivers side. I swapped it with the passenger side, when it finally stopped working, I replaced it. Drivers is still working. I wouldn't let one non working window stop you. If you have a donor with all the parts, things can be fixed. You just have to be logical with your diagnosis of the issue.

Also, I recommend this too.

73-76 trucks never came with power windows.  If it isn't the factory setup I don't know that I would do it...  Just depends on the lift motor style.  77-91 doors were redesigned to allow power windows.
