I thought GQ1 meant regular open differential but I could be wrong. Any other codes? If not you 'll need to pop the cover off to find out.

Nope.  No other codes.  At least not on the glove box sticker.  All it says is: "GQ1 - Rear Axle - Standard".
How do I determine the ratio after pulling the cover?
thanks.

You will see 2 numbers on the outside of the ring gear, divide them and that is what you have. IE 43/13 3.31

Ok, I followed a link to a site that has reprints of the original Chevy truck flyers. Looks like the standard ratio axle for a C10 in 1981 is 2.73.  Does that sound about right?

Is it a 10 or 12 bolt? Most of the 12 bolts were 2.73 or 3.07. The 10 bolts were usually 3.08 or 3.42

It's a 10 bolt.  Hey, do you think that a 10 bolt will be strong enough for a slide in or pull behind camper?

You should be ok if you don't exceed the GCVW rating.  I suspect with the leaf stack in your other post you have the lighter duty braking with the thinner rotors.  Beefing up the springs doesn't change the rest just that it will handle the load better.  I used to tow my car trailer with my old 82 with a worn out 305 and 3.08 rear end.  It didn't do to bad.
