I got problems!!

Guys, first my gas guage on my '76 GMC is not reading right. When installing my transmission,the wire leading from my gas guage to the gas tank, broke! My Gas hand was showing full! I knew this was not correct, when i fixed the wire and turned the switch it went all the way to empty! Went to the gas station and it only held 5 gallons! What's wrong? And the gas hand did not move!

Secondly, my speedometer needle points straight down? I can't remember if I broke something off or not. It does move but it may not be accurate!

Well when installing your trans did you swap over the speedo gear?

As far as the gas gauge is concerned did you solder the connection you broke?

No, I didn't swap over the speedo gear. Didn't know I had to or even how to.

I only did a quick fix,twist the wire together and put some electrical tape around it. That's all! Also went to put gas in my truck again and gas started to trickle down the side of the truck even before I took the nozzle off the pump. What's up with that?
