Title: LED question
Post by: Jeff86inMS on March 17, 2023, 02:17:28 PM
Currently in the process of swapping all the bulbs to LED.  I have purchased the new flasher style so the LEDs will work.  My question is, do I need to replace all the bulbs at the same time or will the electronic flasher operate both LED and incandescent bulbs until I can change them all?  TIA!

Actually, as long as you have one or two incandescent bulbs on each side you should be able to use a standard flasher until your conversion is complete.

The solid state flashers work with all bulb types

Solid States?  I got the new flasher from Amazon.  Where do I get the “Solid State” one?

Solid state vs Mechanical

OEM flashers relied on heat generation from the bulbs load to open and close a contact.

LED's don't produce the heat required, so as bd said, keep one incandescent bulb in the circuit till you have the solid state flasher ready to replace the mechanical one.

I switched every single one of my bulbs, inside and out, on my truck to LED.  The LED flasher will not work for the old incadenscent bulbs.  Also, just so you know, when you change over to LED, your turn signal will no longer click.  I LOVE the LEDs.

Success!  I have switched over!  Installed the relay.  New relay has a ground that I was able to use a existing firewall screw already in place to ground to.  Instead of replacing the tail light assemblies, I just replaced the bulbs, did the same with all of the side marker lights, as well as the front turn signal bulbs.  Has made a huge difference, well worth the upgrade.  Bulbs are much brighter and I have more visibility to other drivers on the rural roads I travel.  We don’t have many, if any, on most of the roads I travel to work.  Thanks to everyone who replied and offered advice, you guys are great and truly appreciated!
