Post by: 123 pugsy on March 12, 2006, 08:09:00 PM
76 LWB 2WD

283 engine in with all brackets and A/C from 87.Got it to run out of the garage under its own power.Running a little rough.I changed the cap ,rotor.brand new wires today and it runs smoother but still surges.Must be the carb????

Just gotta start putting on the front clip and some interior work and............about a month should be done.

Why did you pick the 283? I though they were hard to come by? Don't get me wrong the motor looks real nice. I to would have a hard time driving it a round after all the hard work. I think I would take it to a couple of shows on a trailer first.Do you have the inside done? can't wait to see.

283 came with the truck and since I'm trying to build a cheap (on gas) driver,I thought I would keep it along with a 700r4 tranny.Interiors not done yet.Still busy playing with springs for the seat which just arrived from  .Its definitely not a SHOW truck. The pictures lie.Its not as good as it looks.I did the body work myself and I'm no expert.:p

You will like the 283s rev with the low 700R4 first gear. Looks real good.

I must be loosing it, I don't remember the 283 being offered as an option. Or did you just buy it with the 283 in it?
Well it looks good from the pic anyway.  I think when you build a truck you know where every bump ding, run is. Where we do not see it. So still looks good from where we are setting. So it looks nice I thing we all like how you got it set up.
Keep sending the picks

The 283 was in it when I got it.Found out the block was cracked on 2 sides but the guy who cleaned it up had a block in his pile of stuff.(phew).It comes from a 1967 Chevy of some sort.

WOW, Glad you found the cracks some time they are hard to find with out  having them magnflux or us a die check two part spray to find them. I had a manual trans that was crack like that could not figure out where the leak was coming from tell I use a die check.

I wish I had a place to do this with my truck. Everything I do looks like shadetree, losing tools and nuts and bolts in the dirt. You've done a great job Pugsy. Keep it up man, looks great.
