Steering Columns / Re: Steering column grommet

Is it like this?  https://www.2040-parts.com/1973-1987-chevrolet-gmc-c10-30-k10-30-steering-column-to-dash-seal-ring-orig-gm-i1803308/

Maybe you can make one.  Buy some foam from the dollar store and use it to cut one out.  I did that for the the replacement foam seal on on the passenger side where the vent air comes in.  You can find it in the craft section usually.  I needed black, not sure of what other colors they had.

Brakes, Frame, Steering & Suspension / Re: Upper Steering Shaft Pot Joint Parts

Sorry, have been busy the past few days. I I stalled the u joint style shaft to eliminate as much play as possible. I am feeling vibration through the wheel after install. I know most have not. I was keeping, and restoring, the old joint in case I wanted to re-use it, which I ended up doing for the time being. The new lower collar made a difference and I'm not feeling a huge difference between the u joint shaft and the original rag style. I just wasn't sure if maybe someone had the original one disassembled before me and it had a spring and they just didn't put it back in for whatever reason. I re-assembled it without a spring. Not sure what the purpose of the spring would be anyway. Thanks.

Looks great!!!  Good job.  So the pocks usually found on/in the bezels after sanding and painting with the primer leveled out?  What brand is the silver wheel primer?  My 78, back in 78, came from the factory with the grill having black vertical & horizontal painted around the cells.  The paint kept chipping off so the dealer removed all the paint.  I liked it with the black outlines.  I now have a new grill, as the old one was coming aparing in sections, and the new grill does not have the outline.  I thought about using striping tape, but need to find tape that actually sticks.  Need to find the good, probably expensive, tape so any suggestions are appreciated.

Body, Glass & Paint / OEM '78 K10 grill and front end details

By accident, about 5 years ago, I happened on a junkyard about to close, go out of business.

Was looking for rally wheels and beauty rings for the '80 C10. Found them btw.

On this bench sat a grill that I knew was a fit for my '78 K10.

I asked the guy about it, he said "yeah, the guy just wanted the bow tie".

$20.00 Lucky me... 8)

The one that came with the truck was broken, and roached from sand storm. I worked her really hard, sand able primer etc.

So this one was a dream come true.

Used "Wheel Silver paint" and clear coat.

What I want to share with my fellow SB brothers and sisters is the following: Contrast really makes thing pop.

I blacked out the connective tissue in the grill, both vertical and horizontal.

The results make the cells look like they are free floating.

The ring around the headlights do the same.

Don't try after imbibing adult beverages, just sayin... ;)

FWIW, I sanded the interior of the headlight bezels, used high fill primer to fill in the divots, sanded and painted using the same "Wheel Silver"

Last word on this stuff. I don't think rattle can clear coat is made to stand up to UV etc. Find an automotive grade.

"Afta afta" - Mr. Miagi Karate Kid(sic)

There appears to be a different tint to the same color used some 7 years ago.

Looks close to the pillars and door panels.

I bought the passenger side door panel, much better shape than my roach.

Have it painted but haven't installed yet.

BTW the dog isn't mine. I named it 'Retarded Dog' just to annoy those PC ones among us. How am I doing?  ;)

Not that I work that fast, actually took a couple of days to refurbish the dash.

I like the OEM bezel better than the reman I used when I bought the truck.

"Colonial Red" was the closest rattle can I could find to the pillars, so I painted the roached out door panels. That was about 7 years ago, so some fading could have happened.

As soon as I get the pix shrink going I'll send the results.

Decided to use just the bezel for the red one, the instruments are a direct fit for the '80 under construction.

My buddy runs a truck recycle yard, he came up on a '78 C30 long bed.

When I got to it the left front fender and steering column were gone, not that I needed them.

I did think the dash and instruments/bezel were in great shape for being 45 years old.

If you want his contact info just ask.

I need to get these refurbished for my Red Girl...
