removing fusible links question
« on: January 22, 2010, 01:15:01 PM »
I am intalling a 5.3 engine and harness in a 84 silverado,, I have a stand alone harness but I want to remove the fusible links at the fire wall block,,,  anyone know how can I safely do this with out burning anything..... ps the 5.3 harness its on its own.but I still need to power the fusible links to provide power to the insaide of the cab I was thinking I could run the wires straight to the battery and install like a 60A or 50A fuse heavy duty fuse like on the RV's or the big rigs, any of you that cleaned up the fire wall,  how did you do this?

thanks in advanced

Some guys say not to remove the fusible links or at least replace them if you do change the harness. The mega fuses are, of course, good as a replacement as long as you don't put  it in the interior where a fire can break out. There was a good discussion from a coupla yrs ago on the hotrodders.com site- http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/fusible-links-118121.html?highlight=fusible+linkshere's a link...
