4l80e Np205 swap
« on: March 03, 2014, 09:57:23 AM »
Im planing on adding a vss to my np205. I am going to use a 241 sensor and ring. Is there any particular year or part number that would work the best? Its going in a 1978 K30 with a crappy 350. Im swapping in a 4l80e and the np205 to replace the th400 and crappy np203.

There was a pretty good writeup on at the s10 forum by a member who had done quite a few. Does this link help?

OP-

How did this work for you?

Thanks for that link. Bookmarked it. I am planning on dropping my Dana60 out of my '77 K-30 in my '94 K2500 after I get done building my '77. One project at a time right? Lol!

Freaking Finally!!! Bringing this project back from the dead!

NP205 came back from the machine shop and has been reassembled. I just bought a quick shift 4 trans controller from US shift. Waiting on a few more parts. Hoping to start the swap in a few weeks.

after reading that link you posted i might just part out my 91 crewcab setup. 4l80e/205, i could prob get 600 to the 205 (maybe 500) and the adapter might fetch another 200 then i have the trans which might go for 200 also lol

You could probably get 5 or 6 hundo out of a 91 NP205. I originally tried to find one but they where either beat to **!! or the guy acted like he hand chiseled the case out of solid gold.

I took mine to a fancy machine shop so your mileage may vary if your looking to attempt this swap. I paid just under 500 bucks to have the case machined for the bigger 32 spline bearing, the tailhousing and the np241 tone wheel machined for the vss and the shift rail machined for the twin sticks (I could have easily done this with a grinder and it would have been a much cheaper bill but I didn't want it to look like I attacked it with a dull beaver so I had them machine the shift rail.)

yeah i might go down this road soon. my neighbor has a mill and lathe and my best friend owns a welding shop with a mill and lathe. but something just broke in my truck a few weeks ago, so selling the parts might help pay for maybe a nv4500/241
