I need help with a grill swap

i have a 79 chevy 4x4 with a broken grill.  i bought a grill off ebay for a supposed 73-80 but it is thicker than my original one.  it is 2-3" deeper than the original.  it is a nice grill and would look good but do i have to change out the whole radiator support to make it fit or what.  the grill is out of a 73-74 truck with a 454 it has gmc in the middle and 454 in the lower right hand corner.
