theres two systems the bose and non bose. i know my impala has one but its the bose my buddys tahoe has one and im unsure of the style

Thanks Tim for the research.  I actually read that thread on FSC but missed that paragraph about the radio being self sufficient.  Guess it is speaker time... I hate removing plastic in the cold weather.  Might be a better spring project as to not break anything

Don't know what year it started on Gm vehicles the chimes and turn signal sounds come Thru the left front speaker. If you can here the turn signal click thru the speaker it's good.
Both  my cobalts do it or did. Replaced front speakers in the front due to no sound  in the 07 and have no sound in the 09 front speakers.

Just a thought.

My '05 2500HD chimes through the left front speaker (why I asked earlier).

Out of curiosity, I checked our '01 Tahoe to see about the chimes through the speakers, which it does not chime through the speakers.

Chimes from under the dash somewhere, definitely not from the LF speaker.  Got the chimes for key in the ignition, door open and lights on without key in the ignition...

Same operation from our '01 Tahoe.

With the base model radio/speakers in my '05 2500HD, plus experience with '05 1500 base model trucks, the stock base model speakers are not that great; I'd still suspect the speakers may be the culprit.

FWIW - Since you tested the radio otherwise and it worked, my suspicion would still be with the speakers and think you're on the right track to check out the speakers. Hopefully it may simply be a case where you can swap the Pontiac speakers (or other brand) and all is good.

That is the direction I am leaning, hopefully they are the same size.

I had an 05 that had intermitent radio isues. Would not work most of the time, but would once in a while. I found a mouse house under the under hood fuse box. fixed a couple wires, radio worked after that.

Was it not powered (no clock or anything) or just no sound?

The sound system in the 2002 base model Silverado is very basic. If you have determined that the radio head unit is fine the only thing left to check is the speakers or wiring.

This, it's one of the most accurate I've seen here yet. Speakers, wiring, and head unit. The chime does not come thru the speakers on these types of systems.

Something that I just read up on was these radios will go into a "safe" mode if they sense a ground issue with the speakers. They said if you take a AAA battery and with a couple test leads you can test each speaker by connecting the + and - to each speaker you should get a click that click tells you the speaker is good.

Isn't that basically the same as doing an impedance test with an ohm meter? If the speaker pops, it means it's good?

Idk anything about speakers lol but what tester do you need for that? I think the point of the AAA is its a diy tool you can make

Just read up on that test and it will just tell you the ohms no lol that I heard or read. I'm sure it will tell you the same thing but again I don't know crap about speakers

Basically, connect an analog ohmmeter to the speaker terminals with the wiring connector unplugged and set the meter to RX1 scale. If the speaker makes a popping sound, you know it's good. If nothing happens when you do that, then either the speaker is bad, or the wiring to it is. These are the instructions that came directly out of my GM wiring and electrical diagnosis manual for an 89 C/K series truck. It should obviously apply to our trucks, and the same should apply to the newer trucks as well.
