lowering leafs
« on: October 15, 2016, 04:31:33 PM »

I found out today that I have a broken main leaf spring.  The view while the truck was on the guard rail was very enlightening.

The plan was to get 2-3" drop spindles in front and just do shackles, etc. in the rear.  That plan is now under modification.

Are lowering leafs a good option?  Where is a good place to buy?

Or maybe if I would have had a bigger run.

It actually backed up on it.  The road was cold and damp and it spun 180* around.  Completely SUX.  Rocker panels smashed, cab corner bent and as it came off the guardrail in the hook, there was minor damage to the rear fender.  Then there's the question of the frame.  I think it's OK but I'll have to have it checked.

frams can usually take a licking. but glad it was only minor, sucks about the damage but you can rebuild it

There don't seem to be a lot of options for lower rear springs.

That's because there are no options for lowering leafs, shorter shackle, shackle flip, axle flip(axle over spring) are the three choices for lowering the rear.

Doesn't western chassis make a 3-4" lowering leaf spring?

All that is the company removes a couple leafs and calls it a lowering leaf spring, you can save money and time by going with a flip kit...

Ah, sneaky Petes there.  My suspension is pretty tired.  I plan to get new stock leafs and coils and then do a 3/5 djm spindle/flip myself.

Western doesn't remove springs to make it lower.  I have a set on my truck...  I have been very happy with it.

Old thread, I know, but how's the ride with the drops leafs? Seems like the most expensive option for lowering the rear, but the Burb is my daily, so that's important.

I have a set on one of my trucks, which is a short-bed stepside. I would not run these on a suburban.

I've had these puppies ordered for almost 2 months now from Western Chassis and still nothing - except it only took them 1 day to take my $$$ out!

Is this "normal"?
