79 Silverado K10 vs. 84 Silverado K10 Bench Seat
« on: February 24, 2018, 12:58:14 PM »
We just bought a 84 K10 Silverado that we are restoring. We searched for a long time for a bench seat for the truck as the other owner had replaced the original with bucket seats. After much searching we found a 79 seat. We have the seat installed, but it will need reupholstering. I would like to make this truck as original as possible and was wondering if I could buy the foam and upholstery kit for the 84 seat to fit it, or if the entire frame of the 79 seat was different and would not work? I know the seat in the 84 has the seat belts coming through the seat rather than behind it like the 79, but I think that is the foam difference rather than the frame. Anyway, my question is can I replace the foam and upholstery with 84 parts or do I have to stick with a 79 replacement kit? Thanks so much in advance!!

Appreciate it! Im glad there is a place where I can ask questions like this. Y'all will probably be hearing a lot from me as this process is just beginning. I have fixed up a 86 Bronco, but this Chevy is much different (and cooler!).

Another thing I should mention is that the bolt holes lined up perfectly.

There is a frame difference, and you'll actually notice it more at the ends of the bench where the lower part of the the three point harness attaches to the floor...in fact some find it difficult to put the three points harness in.

And yes the seat belt hole for the frame is different, there is a small cutout to allow the belts to go through.

Thank you! I guess I'll have to settle with the 79 upholstery and just pull the seatbelts between the seat. I may have to cut the plastic off of them to make them flexible enough which I hate to do, but if the 84 foam/upholstery won't fit that is my only option. Thanks again!
