Stuck Driver Side Window (and Vent Windows)
« on: June 27, 2016, 07:33:50 PM »
The "85 C10 Silverado" I recently acquired had been sitting idle, for at least three (if not more) blistering summers. As a result the rubber seals around the driver side window seem to have softened to the extent that I cannot get the window to move from the up position.  What is the best way to loosen the window without causing damage to any of the parts?  This also applies to the vent windows which are literally glued to the rubber.  Any help is appreciated?  I do have power windows.

There is a kit in the store on this site that replaces all the seals in both doors for $100. It doesn't include the seals for the vent windows. They can be found at   for $20-30 each. The rivet needs to be removed to change the vent seal, you'll need new ones or screws with lock nuts. Your window regulators and motors are probably junk. I tried to be cheap and had to take them a part again to replace them. Check the store here, Rock Auto, or  . I think they were $75-90 per side. (motor and regulator kit)

Capt, thanks for the comeback.  As for the motors...the passenger side motor works fine, however, if I have to replace the driver side motor I may as well replace both to make sure I have "newbies" in each door.  I may also go for the heavy duty relay harness (depending on condition of the OE harness).  Once I've solved the stuck window problem I plan to replace the seals with kits from the store.

Again, appreciate your help.

Also to get them unstick for the time being you can spray wd40 on the seals . It will soften the rubber and put a barrier between the glass and sticky parts of rubber. Only down side is cleaning t off when your done.
