which upgrade next?
« on: June 01, 2003, 10:11:00 AM »
Summer's comming and it's time for my truck's next performance upgrade.  My budget this year is pretty tight, so I'm look at doing one of the following - either an Edelbrock RPM intake, or a nice set of 1.6 ratio roller rockers.  My question to all of you is which upgrade will give me the more bang for my buck?

Go with the intake. A Performer RPM through Summit is about $130 for normal 1955-1986 iron and 1986+ aluminum heads.

I second that.  Besides, the HOT cam kit already has 1.6 rockers.

When I bought my HOT cam, I didn't have the coin to get the rockers too, so I just got the cam.  Besides, I wasn't thrilled with the GM rockers, so I decided to wait until I could afford good aftermarket ones.

LOL GM rockers ARE aftermarket rockers. They are cranes "gold race" rockers.

What kind of a intake are you running right now?

:o .  Now that I think of it, I did know know that at one point about GM using crane rockers.  At the very least, the cost is outlandish, much cheaper through JEG's than a chevy dealership.  My intake is the stock ZZ4 intake.  It's not bad from what I hear, but since the ZZ4 was designed to go in vette's, it was designed to be as low profile as stock.  It is the only piece of the ZZ4 that GM designed specifically for their crate engine and never put on a vehicle - so I don't know much about it.  It's aluminum and fairly low profile, that's about it.

In that case I would go with a new intake. And your right, GM charges way too much for rockers they dont even make :rolleyes
