Back in the Summer of 2010 I had a fellow 73-87 owner that had a spare Crew Cab headliner upon which I bought sight unseen and had him ship it to a company that forms a lot of parts for us. Shortly after this the company closed. Luckily the headliner was in his personal possession. After a few years of him trying to bring back his current product offering I finally asked for it back due to the interest of this thread: http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=10331 (http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=10331)
As of October 11, 2013, I received the headliner back into my possession. It was basically intact for the most part, but it had definitely seen better days. Due to size restrictions back in 2010 I had the fellow 73-87 owner cut it in half, it is sitting together here:

October 31, 2013: Dropped by the placing helping with the Pillar Pods and they have already started making progress on the headliner. Due to size and installation limitations, we are currently approaching it to be done in 2 pieces and be bonded together. This is progress of less than a week!

November 14, 2013: Got a call yesterday telling me they have the raw mold made and did a pull on it and I could come down and pick it up for test fitting. Went by this morning and picked it up. Feedback is welcome.

I now actually have a 90 burb headliner with overhead console ( which obviously doesn't fit perfect) Could we use this headliner in conjunction with overhead console? Is did a "pull on it" slang for something? or typo confused............
-
Yes it can be used for both, you just have to cut the opening for the console to fit.
They have a mold and they vacuumed form what you see and pulled the above off the mold as is...
-
That is so sweet, I cant wait until they are available. Any rough time frame? 8)
-
Hopefully first quarter of next year. Trying to get the pillar pods finished.
-
What are the chances these could warp during a hot Texas summer?
-
Pretty slim. They are made from ABS plastic and these are fairly thick...
-
Sunday, February 2nd, 2014: Actually had some time to trim up the front section of the headliner, of course it was raining...
Saturday, February 8th, 2014: Got the front trimmed to size and was able to get a feel for fitment. Currently the angles on the edges are not correct and need more of a curve to them.
Also got the rear trimmed and fit and it needs the same additional curving on it. Didn't get a picture of it in the truck as I was going it alone.
Should be going by the shop to get the curves updated sometime either this week or next.
-
Looking good. Do you think that it will be flat enough to be painted and still look good? Painting would make cleaning easy of the black streak that shows from driving with the window open.
Have you got a rough estimate what the cost is going to be?
-
These are being designed to be covered. By flat enough to you mean the finish? I am sure if prepped it could be painted.
-
By flat I mean is it going to be wavy like a cheap fiberglass hood?
-
It better not be.... It should be just like the current offering of ABS headliner replacements
-
Any updates on this? I cant wait! Even though there is a long list of stuff to do before the interior ::).
-
actaully I had them redo the original mold a while back but haven't bugged them as we are finishing up the pillar pods.
-
Awesome, this is one of the reasons I joined this forum as my headliner is in need of replacement also. Thanks for pushing this through capt.
-
I am actually looking for a crew cab roof panel to see if I can speed this up... Or a cheap crew cab (just the cab) or the whole truck if it is cheap...
-
Have any updates for this. I bought a crew that has full interior minus the headliner board. I really could use one of these as I am do a full re-do of interior. Thanks
-
Still looking for a roof section or whole truck or Cab.
-
Might be able to find one. But how are they supposed to come out?
-
Did all 73-87's come with a factory headliner?
-
no. depends on the package. my Scottsdale doesnt but the silverado does
-
Ok, either my 77 bonanza did not come with one, or original owner took it out. Thanks
-
Might be able to find one. But how are they supposed to come out?
You have to cut it out...
-
then how do they go in lol
-
The roof or the headliner?
The headliner is held up with the trim.
-
the headliner
-
Iirc I pulled mine out through the windshield opening
-
i can see this, but in order to change one or put it in you would have to have the windshield or maybe rear window out. just something i need to know and plan for
-
I think I read once that it was possible to roll/ curl it and go through a window. I know I struggled to not mess up the one I pulled it may of been back window it was a parts truck and long enough ago I don't recall for certain. Maybe a new one would flex enough but the 30 odd yr old one I pulled was very fragile. I figured through the windshield to go back in.
-
Any updates on this?!
-
Late reply but I am looking for a roof section to get a better mold off of. If you know any, I will buy it.

I am picking up a 88 K3500 Crew cab this weekend, pretty sure the roof is ok, I will double check and get back to you.
-
'88 V3500 you mean? Or is it a Gen 4 1-ton regular cab?

March 16, 2016: Creating a little backstory, but on this date what I had going for a headliner was lost in an industrial fire. This company helped with the Pillar Pod creation. They just were able to get back into reconstruction on October 30. They have plans to be back in business at the beginning of the year.
This is just a glimpse of the fire:

-
October 30, 2016: Since April I have been trying to assess what was left and there were little information due to the safety issues surrounding the fire and materials. During this time I searched local used parts places with no luck, attempted to find and purchase a project truck with no luck and finally found someone willing to cut the roof off a a crew. Problem was I had to find a way to get it from 500+ miles away.

November 7th, 2016: After failed attempts to get this picked up without being palletized I found a fellow 73-87 customer and internet friend that said he would be willing to deliver when he came home to Alabama. We arranged the pickup/delivery on the roof section.
December 17th, 2016: Received this picture of the headliner strapped down ready for the trip to Alabama. Expecting it to be here sometime around Christmas. So for all those waiting we should be able to get started on this thing again. Thanks to Devin for making this deliver for me.

progress ;D

Awesome!!! ;D
-
Any progress?
-
They are working on it. HOPING for the end of the month.
-
Excellent!

April 14th, 2017: Just an update. Spoke with the company that is working on the headliner for me. They are working on the finishing the plug/mold for it. We went back and forth for a while on 1 or 2 piece design. I insisted it be 1 piece, his machine cannot form a sheet this big so he has an old buisness partner that does so this is moving forward as a one piece setup. Just waiting on the mold/plug to be completed.
-
with the two piece it might make it easier to install and can go through the door instead of window. if it was a cheaper option, i would buy one of those just so i dont have to remove a window.

Would make it easier to ship as well, if the one piece headliner does well, maybe consider a two piece as a later option?

May 5th, 2017 Talked to the company and we should have an update on the mold soon. Fiberglass guy's wife is ill so it was slow for a little while until he found a helper.
I did pick these POC's up for the transition piece. These are 3D printed, but thinking of having them vacuum formed in plastic instead of stamped with metal. Opinions from Crew Cab owners?
-
um what are these?
-
They are the pieces that go between the headliner trim from the middle pillar to the rear pillar on a crew cab.
This is the metal ones:
-
ok, my mind was playing tricks on me. in my mind the scale made them look like the size of a glove box
-
LOL
-
what was the original made out of stamped metal? or plastic? i'd like metal personally, no chance of it weathering badly and falling apart or becoming brittle
-
im almost certain the OEM is metal. but one issue was the metal wouldnt fade like the plastic trim so after some years they wouldnt match.
-
Metal is always better.

Just wondering if their were any updates on the headliner yet? I'm not quite ready to do my interior just yet, but waiting for news is making me feel like a kid counting down the days until Christmas!
-
Any progress on the headliner? I am taking my 79 GMC in for some repairs under the windshield and am hoping to replace the headliner while the window is out. The other option is to recover the one in the truck. It is the white perforated vinyl and I would like to replicate that if possible. Does anyone know if there is a source for the headliner material?
-
They are finishing up the mold for the headliner. Picture is of Oct 17th. Hope to have them done and pulled by th 30th or sooner.
We have also recieved the follow pic of the crew cab pieces and hope to have the proofs next week. These are metal like the originals.
As for headliner material. We sell headliners and can possibly supply you with material, just email me webmaster@73-87chevytrucks.com

It looks like it's really coming along! I look forward to seeing these for sale in the near future. Is the headliner blank the same for all the crew cabs with the early models being vinyl covered and later with the foam backed cloth? Was there a cloth headliner available in the early trucks?
-
Update as of Wednesday November 3rd 2017. Got the proof for the Crew Headliner trim and fitted it into a buddies Crew Cab project.
Factory on the Left, Replacement on the right. I am having them fix the tooling for the screw inset to match the factory. Should have these soon!

Any update on the headliners? Very curious as I've spent the last 3 months trying to fix one i found and have come upon the realization that i am a much better welder/wrench turner than i am an upholsterer ;D
-
I too am very interested in these. Have followed progress for a couple of years now. Hope to see something soon. Finger on the purchase button.
-
Thursday, September 6th, 2018: Picked up the new Crew Headliner proofs this week.
Sunday, September 30th, 2018: Got the headliner trimmed and ready for putting in the R&D Crew. Left it with the owner and he wasn't able to get it in by himself, so as soon as I get time this coming weekend I plan to get it mounted in the truck.
-
Progress :)
-
Capt: still interested in your progress on these headliners... any update?
-
I know I'm resurrecting the dead here, but is there anything we could do to get a progress update or help with production like preorders or something? I don't want a bow headliner and I'm about to start dumping resin and fiber mat on my old one to save what I can.
-
Wednesday, December 9th, 2020: There have been several people asking about these and I haven't had much of an update until now. After 2+ years of being them being "missing" and stalled I was finally able to locate the crew cab headliner plug and retrieve the crew cab headliner mold. Thankfully we didn't have to make a other one. Hopefully we can finalize these and get them out there soon.
-
Will purchase one of these also when they're ready. Mine won't take another redo, and it needs one bad.
-
I would love to pre order if it would help the cause
-
Any updates? I'm still interested.
-
Yes sorry I was out sick I just tested these in the 1st truck and working on making the cut path. Need to check in another truck and on the roof panel we have. but we are VERY close.
-
Capt. just bringing back this topic. It has been a year. Any updates?
-
Hi Chris,
Just helping to keep the thread alive. What’s the latest on these?
-
Well the latest is Pandemic threw everything off, and I was trying to be respectful of the company doing work, but after they ghosted me in 2022 about the time you posted this, I finally showed up at their door asking questions and the guy there tells me that my contact wasn't in the office as much this year and he is now off because he has a newborn and that he would give him a message. This is basically the same thing that was told to me the 3 times prior which I informed him, AND informed him that I have left voicemails and emails that haven't been returned for over 8 months.
As of today, The proof I dropped off and the cut template I dropped off they state were "lost" and floated away in a flood. Granted their location does have that potential, but a 66"x 60" pieced of ABS shaped like a boat won't float through the largest of their doors of 36" where they were stored.
Now they owe me money for the loss and we are disagreeing on cost and amount. I am seriously frustrated with all of this but I am trying to get it back on track.
When i dropped it off all they had to do was get boxing prices and get 2 box proofs and I was going to ship one of these to a friend and have him proof it in his truck after shipment. Now I am back at square one where I am going to have to pull one out of a paying customer who owns one and start over again.
-
This when my wife would say: "I hate people" ::)
Sorry to hear this, I have a 3+3 that would love to have a new one.
-
This has been an interesting thread. Are there any updates?
-
No solid update we are still debating on the amount I am owed for trimming 2 panels based on what they stated they would charge me. There is a slight difference in what I think I am owed vs what they want to pay me.
