I have an 85 C20 crew with a turbo 400. Will the 475 be a direct fit? I saw one on craigslist.
-
I've never heard of a 475 transmission

TH475 is the same as a TH400 externally. Most of them had a drum emergency brake on the tail shaft as they were used in motor homes, C50 or bigger trucks, and busses. Might run into drive shaft issues if the drum brake is present. Internally they are different. They have strait cut gears instead of angled or sun cut. They are much stronger. They tend to have a whine noise when running down the road because of the strait gears.

Learn something new every day. Thanks Blazin!

Ya, I'm waiting on the seller to get back with me on it.

What's wrong with your TH400?
-
I know it needs a rebuild close to 200k on it and I saw this one that has already been rebuilt and the guy wants $450 for it. To have the 400 redone will be $700, I can get a solid kit for $200. I've built many engines but never a tranny and I'd hate to screw it up the first time out.
-
when did you get the truck? just cause the odom might say something close to 200k dont mean that the trans seen that could of been replaced at 150k with trans i run them till they blow lol
-
I know the guy I bought it from...never had a rebuild. I hear ya on driving it till it blows...don't wanna be in the boonies when that happens.

That's what friends are for lol ::)
