Throttle wire issue
« on: May 16, 2014, 05:27:28 PM »
Hey guys. This is on an 82 C10, 305 V8, automatic. As pictured, the throttle cable keeps getting hung up on a little plastic sleeve on the drivers side along side the carburetor. There looks to be 2 plastic sleeves that slide into one another and because the ends of each sleeve stop where the other begins they are catching on each other. Can it be removed or altered so that the cable doesn't keep getting caught? it can drive like it is but I have to punch on the accelerator sometimes when taking off from a stop sign or light when it gets caught. Seems somewhat unsafe. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

That generally happens when the inner cable guide deteriorates and cracks into pieces making it shorter.  The first choice is to replace the accelerator cable.  Removing the inner and/or outer cable guide exposes you to the risk of the inner flexible steel cable looping and hanging on something, holding the throttle open.

You may be able to slightly bend the blue bracket towards the front of the truck there by shorting the distance just a little, unless theres more slop there than we can

Just an update to this issue. I bought a replacement accelerator cable but it was too long (shortest option available) so I ended up doing as pholliday1 suggested and works fine now. Thank you both!

Did you ever find the right length cable?
