Hello from Arizona.
« on: March 03, 2010, 09:51:52 PM »
MY name is Michael and I live in Mesa, AZ. My very first truck was a 78 long bed 3/4 ton that I still have (I will always keep my first car) however, it's currently not running. It was bought brand new by my Grandfather as his work truck when he worked for a local lumber company. When I turned 16 he gave it to me as my first vehicle and while big and a gas guzzler I loved every second of it. Between my Grandfather and I we managed to rack a bit over 300K on it with only a head gasket and radiator causing us break downs. Finally it was time for a new motor and as my first big vehicle project my graduation money to buy a 383 stroker and put that in the truck. A month later the motor failed due to a rod cap not being properly torqued and after arguing with the machine shop I gave up and parked the truck. During that time I always wanted a mid 70's short bed fleet side truck but never got around to picking one up.

Fast forward 8 years and many project cars later, as luck would have it, a 78 short bed fleet side found me. A family members friend has a nice truck that blew a head gasket and they no longer want it. Hopefully in the next few days I will be able to drag it home for the low low price of 500.00. I can't wait to drive it and remember all the fun my buddies and I had in my 3/4 ton. Once I have driven it for a bit it will be time to tear it down and start building the truck I have had in my head for almost a decade.

All normal practicality and rational money handling goes out of the window when it comes to my truck.
