It’s time to replace the starter on my 1986 C10. I recently pulled the tired original 305 in lieu of a new crate 350 Vortec. When I replaced the engine I reused the starter that came off of the 305. It is starting to fail. I want to replace it with a starter meant for this engine. The new engine is a direct replacement crate engine for a 1996 - 2002 GM truck L31, VIN code “R”. That engine had a gear reduction starter, which has 3 posts on the back, my failing starter only has two, though it has three wires connected to two posts. Can I use a gear reduction starter with this engine and set up, or is my wiring not sufficient. Thanks for any advice you can provide. Auto electric is my downfall!
