Well I got the drivelines out and tore out the old clutch pedal assembly, what a PITA!. Tomorrow the tranny/tcase will come out and I'll start cleaning the underside all up, and put new seals in the Tcase.

Hey BogHog,
Referring to the shift ratios on the tranny, yeah the 2nd and 3rd shifts are quite a ways apart. That's how they all are. If you don't want it to bog you just have to wind it up a ways in 2nd.

I'm glad I won't have to move the bench right now. I'm planning on bucket seats later as time/money permit.

I've also hit my first snag. I need to get a short TH350 tailhousing for my 700R4 to bolt it up to the 4x4 adapter. I've looked online but I'm having a tough time finding one. They're $319 new from GM so I'd like to find a used one. If anyone has one or knows where to get one it would be much appreciated. It's about 3.5" long and came on all the TH350s that were mated up to NP205s from 71-79.

Thanks again.

Ok I see on the tranny shift.....next question.......a 700R4 will not adapt to a NP 205 so you have to use a tail housing off a TH350 put it on and then it will adapt?.......or do some model 700R4 adapt to a NP205 Transfer?....

Well my NP205 has a 10 spline male input shaft because it was mated to my SM465, so my new 700R4 already has the Advance Adapters 10 spline female out put shaft, but it needs the little tail housing cover for the rear to bolt up to the 4x4 adapter and then the Tcase. Let me know if you want the tranny, I'll take some pics once it's out.

Just seeing if anyone has found one of these laying around. All I need is the short tailhousing section of any junk TH350 that was mated to a NP205. It's 4 bolts on the tranny side and a large odd-shaped bolt pattern on the other end.

DUH

I finally figured out exactly what I need. I need the actual 4x4 adapter from a TH350 to NP205 set up.

These pictures show the one I need on the left, and the old SM465 one on the right. I thought these adapters had coupler sleeves in them that were 27 spline for the TH350s, but apparently you can get them without sleeves or take the sleeves out because my tailshaft has the coupler built in to mate up to the 10 spline NP205. I've heard you can find these for about $250 from the dealer, I will go and see tomorrow, but if anyone has one of these for sale, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Well my local dealer wants $390 bucks for the adapter! NO WAY. I found one on ebay, but if anyone on here has one, I'd like to get it from you guys. Anyways the old tranny's coming out today so I'll post some pics.

*EDIT*
I just bought the one from Advance Adapters, should be here monday. Thanks for looking though Boghog.

Yeah that pretty much ties up all my loose ends except for I'm waiting for the seal and gasket kit for the NP205, and some polyurethane mounts. Any suggestions on tearing apart the NP205 to put new seals in it? I heard it's fairly easy.

Well the old tranny is finally out. It was dark when I got done but I'll post some pics tomorrow. I'm going to clean off the whole unit (very dirty/greasy), and then seperate the tcase. The tcase will get some new seals this week and the SM465 gets a spot in the local thrifty nickel. Comes with 6 month old clutch package and flywheel if anyone's interested. This is the week that some real progress starts getting made once all my parts get here.

Got the new tranny in and the crossmember all bolted to the tranny and mocked up for the new holes. Today I will drill the holes and bolt up the crossmember and also bolt up the tcase. I'll post pics tonight I promise :)
