Vile the VIN plate is the only thing on the dash. Not much there but the VIN.

I was referring to the emblem on the dash pad

It was not the original dash, it came out of a 78. How I know it was not the original dash is because it did not have an opening for the VIN plate. However; it said Cheyenne.

Seventh digit is Z. It looks like it was made at the Fremont plant in California, Badge. That’s a good idea, I’m gonna research that now.

Welcome to the Fremont Club! Just a little bit of history, that Chevy plant is now the home to the West Coast Tesla Factory....lol

Hehe, I saw that when I read a little of the history. Guess this plant was state of the art for production back in the day.

So I feel pretty confident after all the research I have done on this, your truck is most likely a Cheyenne. Did you say the tailgate was swapped? Silverado's in 79' do not appear to have ever came with same tailgate, but Cheyenne's did.

Yeah Badge I think so. Here are the facts. From what I read the Silverado came with the large aluminum insert on the tailgate and this truck has the small insert. The tailgate was never swapped, I scratched an inconspicuous spot on the gate and the paint matched the inside of the cab. It came with the insulated headliner, color matched trim pieces, AC, carpet - same as the Silverado. They were very similar trucks - however; the key here would seem to be the tailgate.

Thanks for your help man,
