Hi all, I am working on wiring up my truck and have a question about my fuel gauge. I have dual gastanks and the left hand gas tank gives a correct reading, however when I switch it over to the right hand gas tank it gives a reading way past the full mark. I replaced the switch for choosing the tank also, which seems to be functioning fine. All the other gauges seem to be working correctly. Any ideas?

I have the same problem ,but just a single tank the fuel gauge is as yours.I think I will check the ground as I just painted the frame.Anyone else???

I am starting to think maybe I have a bad ground too? I am not exactly sure how my setup works... I think a pink wire from each sending unit runs to the fuel tank switcher, and each sending unit has a ground near the gas tank? A reply from anyone who knows exactly how this is supposed to be wired would be greatly appreciated.

my dads truck does that. i just hold the switch on whatever tank is doing it for a while then it eventually drops down to the right reading

The wire to the guage should be brown or pink. There should also be a ground wire running from the sending unit to the top of the frame.

Checked my ground wire and that was fine.Poked the test light though the tan wire and it lit up dimly as I have about a 1/4 tank,if that, so that seems OK,but it still shows way over full . Anybody out there have this problem before???? Edited by: 123 pugsy at: 3/19/06 9:29 pm

If the ground wire is ok, the sending unit may have come apart. Mine did, and my gauge did the past full thing. when I dropped the tank, replaced the sending unit and soldered a new ground at the tank, it worked ok.

Been there, It's time to drop the tank and take a look. It's a good chance to clean out rust and setiment. I ended up replacing the sending unit. My brother truck did the same thing, We dropped the tank and found out the float somehow ended up under the tank filter. Of course it was an off road vehicle.

Mine did the same thing also. I checked the ground and there was a bad connection to the frame. sanded to the bare metal and solved the problem.

Got the tank dropped today and the sending unit is toast.Order a new one tommorow and hopefully the fuel guage works after that.

Sending unit was the problem.Fixed that and now I've discovered another problem! I'm almost out of gas.
