Rebirth of Sandy
« on: November 03, 2016, 10:21:31 PM »
A friend of mine built this truck and I helped from time to time. The next owner gave it a hard run into a ditch at 60+ and I ended up with the truck. Got me a new frame and away I went.

If I remember right it was 5-7 drop and the frame is jacked up. Had to swap stock spindles to get it high enough off the ground to drive.

Had to beat the fender in to get the door open.

Surprisingly none of the bumper brackets, bumper, or core support was damaged.

Off with the bed

New frame

Blasted, painted.

Phone I had at the time broke and I lost pictures of the frame going together. I used QA1 ball joints, rebuilt the control arms with Polly bushings.

New frame still has old parts on it to move it around.

Bed sitting on my small trailer. That was a real pita to do myself

R10 tanks, sending units, r30 radiator.

How far the fender sprung

Realized a strap broke when she hit. Luckily new frame had a set.

Tejas mounts

This is where she sits for now. Got to get a few things off the old frame, swap some axles around and paint a few things

This is not an intention to completely restore... but you know how it goes, air box wasn't sealed to the firewall anymore, took that off to fix, found a Crack in the box, got after the old puddy and seam sealer- down to paint and some places metal, which led to sanding. At some point you got to say WHOA HORSE!!! NOT NOW!!!

Irritating it's not right but full intentions are plans to do all the body in the future considering Fenders won't match and whisky scratches from previous owner.

Fuel line. Wire wheeled, sanded, etched, primed... Probably been easier to buy a new one.
