need some 305 cam help.
« on: March 20, 2011, 03:53:00 AM »
I have a built 305 in my truck that the PO had done. I don't have any specs but from what I can tell it has 327 dubble hump heads, performer intake, 600 carb, headers, Accell dis, and a BIG :( cam! I don't know the size of the cam but it seems to be pretty big. I can't sit at a stop light in drive and It won't turn a tire from a dead stop, it really starts to run about 3000 rpm. based on the other stuff and without knowing the compression ratio what should be a good cam for my motor. The motor seems solid but that big of a cam seems like over kill in a 305.

Have you checked your idle screw?

Are you sure its your engine and not your trans?

If it is the cam and you want to swap it, look for one with a higher LSA for better idle quality. 110 to 112 is usually reccomended.
