By the time you get done and finished you couldve bought single stage paint from summit racing. If you watched with kevin tatum did on the show trucks you can make a single stage paint job look better then ever with some clear mixed into the single stage.I am going to be using this on my 2001 dodge ram in about another month or so .Sorry guys no offense but i am cheap but im not that cheap to paint a vehicle with rattle cans let alone rustoleum...

thanks

I had a buddy spray his s-10 with some Kubota Orange from the dealership in his shop and honestly it looked good, a little orange peel but he didn't wet sand or any of that.

I agree with Pat, going with a single stage Polyurethane will be easier and more durable.

Auto paint is made to be on autos.  outside dirty in the sun, etc.

The main problem with rustoleum, etc  is when people try to do it from a rattlecan, the paint dries fast and the can won't put out a big enough spray pattern to hide the spray marks faster then the paint can dry.  It'll work fine if you use a real spray gun.  It really is amazing the stuff auto paints can put up with and still be shiny when you wash them off.

X2 on what 80stepsideguy said. I wouldn't waste my time with Rust Oleum. You can buy acrylic enamel, or single stage urethane equipment paint CHEAP.

i agree with the people saying to buy the single stage or equipment paint,  but many of us don't have a place, or the guns, or the compressor big enough, to do this type of job.   all three of those are the reason i went the way i  did.

if you do have just the one essential tool for spraying (the compressor big enough)  the single stage or equipment paint would be your best bet.

Lack of a good facility is why the majority of us are looking for an alternative to regular painting techniques. I welcome any ideas on how to get a decent cheap paint job.

Not my proudest moments in my auto body career, but I have sprayed a rigs outdoors over the years. Just have to pick you days, and do not leave the tape on over night!

Yep, been there, that tape can be a problem if you get lazy with it, kinda like waiting too long to sand Bondo.

Have you guys seen people building there own style booth outdoors with blue tarps and 2x4s?? Rent a compressor and go to home depot and get  a 43.00 husky paint gun. Who says you need a big facility or a booth to do a good job?? If you do your prep right and like blazin said pick your day accordingly meaning not to hot not to cold and very low humidity.Tackle a paint job is easy.Just gotta be patient and dont go to slow but not fast.Rustoleum was never designed for automotive use and truthfully it belongs on other things rather then vehicles.Just try the single stage routine like summit racing paint line or nason or kirker single stage w/o metallic cause its a PITA to spray. But best thing is to have confidence and you`ll be amazed on what you can do..

thanks

Yea, I used to paint large passenger jets(A320s, 737, 767, 757, 747 etc) and we painted them in fairly poor conditions(compared to autos) the money spent on the tarp and renting a compressor would definetely be worth the extra money to me.
