82' C10 2wd shortbox protouring project
« on: April 12, 2013, 03:25:50 PM »
I bought this running truck for $1,400. It was basically ready for paint but I didn't want to paint the body with other things looking bad. I decided to do an off frame restoration and throw a bunch of goodies on it while I assemble it back together. It's going to be a bitchin ride when I'm done.

The tear down kept me busy for a few days and i sold $1,305 worth of unwanted parts including the I6 with Saginaw 4 speed. Next thing on the checklist is sandblast the frame and do some modification to it before I get it powdercoated.

That was a great buy for $1400.00.  Looking forward to seeing it finished, keep us updated and keep the pics coming.

Today, I picked up a virgin 454 block and a turbo 400 for a total of $175! Good thing that I bought a cherry picker yesterday. I went to Wally World to find some heavy duty trash bags for my 55 gallon barrel for some rust removal for the block with vinegar. Hopefully in 4 or 5 days that I will find out if its a good candidate for a 496 stroker.

Finally pulled the block out of the barrel after 5 days soaking in vinegar, did some cleaning and inspected the hi-performance block. The block is pretty much junk in my opinion but I still can use it for mock up.

I got bored so I decided to clean up the turbo 400 and painted it.

Another thing I did today was removing the front crossmember since I decided that I'm going to use aftermarket crossmember with coilovers, rack and pinion setup.

Thanks, the block needs 3 new cylinders and I really don't know what really happened in #7 cylinder with the hole, maybe shattered piston. I coated the block with Gunk degreaser, poured 3 gallons of vinegar, and top it off with water. After 5 days, I pulled it out and went over it with a fine steel wool then hosed it off then sprayed it down with WD-40 specialist.

Cutting and punching out the rivets ain't no fun. Next on the checklist is take it in to get it sandblasted, powdercoated, then assemble it with full Porterbuilt suspension.
