Not too sure whats going on with my pdl
« on: November 27, 2012, 10:25:36 PM »
Just tracked down my power door lock relay. Put a new fuse in the fuse panel for the locks and bow every door keeps cycling into "lock". 1 door at a time they keep locking. Non stop. 1 every 2 seconds. When i press the switch to lock i can hear the relay click. Nothing happens when i unlock. This is on my 89 suburban power door locks and windows stock.

There has been quit a few threads on here with the same description, more than not it has been the switch itself and most were able to take and clean switch with like rubbing alcohol and get it to work.

I cant imagine the switch would cause the doors to lock 1 at a time forever, on its own

Uhook the switch from the system and see if it stops, just in case a switch is stuck.

I will unhook both swithes and see what happens. Can I pull the switches out of the panels easilg or would it be easier to pop the panel off?

They are held in from the back, you risk cracking it by pulling it though, the clips have to be squeezed to get them out.

Kyle - Each door lock solenoid contains a non-serviceable integral circuit breaker.  If power is supplied to a solenoid continuously, the solenoid will activate, overheat, and the circuit breaker will open until it cools down.  Then the circuit breaker will reset and the cycle starts over again until power is removed.  So a stuck switch or relay can cause the trouble you're experiencing.
