Hood not closing all the way
« on: March 06, 2023, 12:42:07 PM »
Mechanically, it will latch, and won't do anything naughty, except look bad from the driver's seat.  (truck is an 87 V20, but the front clip was replaced at some time with an 84 unit)  Fit is good everywhere, hood is not bent, and sits flush at the cowl.   Adjusting the bumpers up or down doesn't change anything.  Is the latch adjustable up and down?  There is about a 1/2" gap above the grill, and I can physically push it down to where it needs to be.

You should take pictures of all and attach!

So it's resting on the core support?

Raise the grill?

Pics will explain it best JohnnyP, but no, it's not even contacting the bumpers unless I push on it.   It's almost as if the springs? aren't pulling it down enough in front, but they do in the back edge.  Sitting in the drivers seat, it looks like I didn't close the hood all the way.

Your rear hood mounts might actually need to be adjusted. The back of the rear mount may need to be raised and the front of the rear mount slightly lowered. A small adjustment can make a difference on the front and little difference at the rear of the hood.

Is it possible that the hood could be bent/warped.

It could, I guess, it just fits so well everywhere else.  Is there any way to fix this?

First find out if it is warped or bent, sometimes it is hard to tell by eyesight. Remove hood and place it on a known level flat surface and see how it looks.

I'm thinking try to adjust the rear mount on that side, as stated above. I bet a small adjustment would clear that up.

Might be able to see if the front lip of hood is straight with a long level or straight stick/metal. Also check radiator support for even adjustment on both sides and measure the amount of fender rise on each side to see if it is the same. Or my earlier suggestion with the back hinge. I had to play with mine quite a bit to get it straight.
