Title: Transfer case support rod
Post by: bowtieguy80 on May 09, 2018, 04:00:53 PM
Hey guys, I've got a 350/700/208 combo. The enfine is not much more than stock. The problem I have is the transfer case support rod that goes to the bell housing keeps breaking the head of the bolt off. I have tried different grade bolts, always the same thing. Wheater driving easy or towing it still does it. Anybody have this happen? It's getting tiring extracting the bolt all the time, any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

You are using a grade 8 3/8-16 bolt?

Yep, always been grade eight after the first one broke. I've tried to shim it toward the rear with washers- no difference. The holes on the transfer case end are slotted, I used the shims to make sure the bolts were in the middle of the slots.

That should be the last bell housing bolt to be tightened down, install all 3 bolts loose, snug the bell housing bolt and then the 2 at the transfer case, tighten all 3 bolts. Make sure your adapter bolts are all tight, there are 6 and 4, check your mounts too.
