Carb problems with a K10 350
« on: July 03, 2019, 02:22:46 AM »
Hi guys,
i have some troubles with my engine. After a while ( engine temp is at 195) i‘m not able to get full throttle. It sounds like the engine is killed because of no gas. Also if i roll to a trafficlight and don‘t hold a little gas the engine is getting off. And then it is hard tonget the engine started again. The maximum speed is 30mph and if itry to increase the throttle the engine will try to getnoff again.
Ignitiom looks good! Maybe the switch off the gastanks? Or is the carb damaged? It is an original carb installed with one of these round chrome airfilters.

Btw. Which carb should in install to save some gas? Any experiences?

You need to provide some additional information on the year of your truck, and at least the make of the carburetor (Quadrajet, Edelbrock, Holley, etc.).   All carburetors have similar functions, but how you adjust them depends on the brand.

Also, original Quadrajets were usually installed on a spreadbore intake manifold (the primary bore is smaller than secondary), while most Edelbrocks and Holleys are designed for squarebore manifolds (primary and secondary are approximately the same size)  Unless you want to also change intake manifolds, its usually easiest to use a carburetor that matches the intake. Using a carburetor adapter adds more gaskets, and more potential for leaks.

Ok :)
It is a 350 from 1975 and a quadrajet is installed. Do you know carbs which fits the original spreadbore? I just searched for edelbroxk and holleys... Thought about an Edelbrock 1406 but if i have to change the spread, maybe i think about it again ;)
Want to save some gas.
Can the fueltank switch be a problem?

Sounds like you are starving for gas if you can only reach 30 mph.

Check your filters especially the one at inside the carburetor.
