pros and cons of an 82 Dually 6.2L
« on: January 28, 2003, 03:29:00 PM »
I am currently debating the purchase of a 1982 GMC dually - single cab, (don't recall if it's a swb or lwb)  with a rebuilt 6.2L diesel  The truck is quite clean (engine compartment cleaner than some 1997/1998 trucks I've seen.  Everything works, and I didn't notice any rust on upon my first inspection.  I will be using it as a daily driver (I commute about 200 miles round trip a day)  I was wondering if anyone knew if the gas mileage would be decent and any general opinions on the package.  I have a few pics if you want to see it.  They are asking $4000 for it, but I going to see if they will take $3000 cash for it, and call it a day.

There was a '82LB  in the town where I live and it was for sale $3900.00 I think it sold for $3000.00
It was a clean truck. I have a '79 that I will putting a 6.2 diesel into it. There nothing wrong with this motor. Look for a (J) series. Good Luck

I've got an 82 Suburban with a 6.2L diesel and almost 300K on it with one rebuild on the diesel and it still runs strong. For a diesel they don't have alot of power, but it gets decent mileage, I think atleast 20mpg. The 6.2L diesels do tend to go through starters though.

200 miles a day?  Good grief!:x   Do you really need something like this?  In my opinion I wouldn't want to drive something like these trucks that much.  My truck is my only transportation.  When I go on wheeling trips it's nothing to put 500+ miles on the truck in a single weekend and it's comfortable the whole time, but that's only a weekend at a time.  A small car is just so much easier to handle...

i drive about 200 miles a day as well for work........but the 82 6.2L diesel is a turd, id just get an import to commute in.  thats why i drive a chevy sprint back and forth to work and my truck sits in the shop. I use to commute my Acura integra until the engine went. the older chevy diesels are junk.
