Title: 1989 454 TBI Exhaust
Post by: Mild Thunder on May 22, 2010, 08:23:00 PM
Just bout a crew cab dually. 454 TBI, TH400, bone stock. Exhaust is original and still has the factory muffler and resonator behind it.

Wondering if its worth it to go to headers, and 2.5" true duals. Or just leave manifolds on and do the exhaust from them back.

Truck will be used to tow my 10k lb boat, so would like to free up some HP without getting into the engine at this point. Any other tips for upgrading power? More into the towing/torque than anything.

I tow 12k with my 86 qjet 454.  I have manifolds and duals and I think that 454 would pull Oklahoma if you could wrap a chain around it.  Headers aren't going to change that.  Headers look cleaner if you have the AIR lines in your manifolds, but they don't bother me too much.
