Help with vent window
« on: December 01, 2023, 09:15:53 AM »
I bought my son a 77 bonanza and we are slowly working on a few things. First up was driver side door.  I bought everything to replace the vent window and door glass and when I went to change the vent window I learned I actually have a 81-87 vent window assembly (I think).

The glass is thinner, the vent glass is 15 3/4” tall. The door glass for the 77 was a direct match and fit.

My question is: does the vent window division bar change for the 77 to 81? I ask because the frame I bought had a tab above the spring
and there was no way I could’ve put it into the assembly even if the glass fit.

I can’t seem to find a 77 division bar or vent window assembly anywhere online anyway.  I may just buy the 81-87 to get it closed up for now.  Do I need the 1 pc weather strip or the 2?

IIRC they are incompatible. Are kits for '77 not available?

I can find the frame, but can’t seem to find the division bar or other parts of the assembly that attach to the truck.

I might have to do some junkyard hunting for it.

Division bar is the same, the weatherstripping is different for thicker vs thinner glass.

Bunch of complied info for the door components here: http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=14625.0

Can you help me out? I have new weatherstripping coming, but with looking at the old, I’m struggling to see where the tab above the spring goes.

Does it go below the weatherstripping? If so, how do you feed the post through the rubber?

Nevermind. I see that it’s a washer.

Thanks again for the help!

Sorry for the delayed response but as you have found, when you pull the vent frame apart it will just be a shaft from the bottom.

BTW, This site/forum not only provides good informaton, we also sell these parts.  I would appreciate the purchase since most dont give the required information to properly choose the parts.
